atascadero, California - housing element Update

LWC was hired by the City of Atascadero to update the City's Housing Element for the planning period from January 2007 to June 2014. The Public Review Draft Housing Element was adopted by City Council in January 2011 and certified by HCD in May 2011.

LWC worked closely with City Staff to craft a Housing Element that complies with State law and is uniquely appropriate for Atascadero. The Housing Element update addresses the housing allocations from the current and previous (2001-2006)planning periods.

Atascadero has a unique combination of rural neighborhoods and a vibrant and growing downtown. Areas that allow for multi-family and mixed use housing are focused in and around downtown to emphasize walkability, reduce greenhouse gases, and maintain a low-density environment in the outlying rural areas. Extensive public outreach was conducted with the public and with members of the housing community in Atascadero and San Luis Obispo County. Results of the outreach efforts were incorporated into the update.
