moss landing economic analysis
Lisa Wise Consulting, inc. was retained by the County of Monterey as part of a consultant team to create an Economic Development Strategy for Moss Landing. LWC was responsible for assessing the economic opportunities, existing conditions and constraints of the marine user groups including:
- Commercial Fishing,
- Recreational Fishing,
- Ecotourism,
- Pleasure Boating,
- Aquaculture, and
- Marine-related Research and Education.
LWC’s work culminates with a list of recommendations designed to bring economic stability and growth to the marine-dependent economy, and thereby contribute to Moss Landing’s overall economic vibrancy.
LWC developed recommendations for economic development opportunities through a comprehensive study of marine users based on a participant driven process that was comprised of one-on-one interviews with key stakeholders. Findings from the interviews were augmented with field observation, and a review and analysis of appropriate archival data. In order to include a regional perspective, LWC also conducted interviews with key stakeholders in Monterey, Santa Cruz, Morro Bay, and Port San Luis. Consultant team members included Applied Development Economics (lead), Hatch Mott MacDonald, and Schaaf & Wheeler.
